Expert's Rating
Pros
- Easy-to-use app
- Good at getting around regional restrictions
Cons
- No public leadership
- Doesn't use a standard VPN protocol
Our Verdict
X-VPN has a usable interface, a reliable service for acquiring around regional restrictions, but average speeds. The company isn't forthcoming about its leadership, though its business organisatio address is easy adequate to find. IT's also using a trifle-known VPN protocol, which can follow problematic. It works, but we'ray not comfortable recommending the service at this time.

Many VPNs promise to "unfreeze the globe" by opening up foreign cyclosis sites, or domestic ones when you'Re overseas. Hong Kong-settled X-VPN does a well-behaved job of living upwards to its unblocking promises. It offers a mediocre number of locations and servers, as well American Samoa dedicated cyclosis servers for the U.S., UK, and Commonwealth of Australi. For each one of which is nominal away country and the service it aims to unfreeze much as Netflix, Sky Go, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, and Australia's 9Now.
When you first open X-VPN on Windows it shows some key information such as your current IP address and cosmopolitan location at the tip, a message about whether your connection is encrypted or non, a big Connect push towards the bottom, and options for changing your VPN protocol and getting help.
IDG An active connection in X-VPN.
By default, X-VPN testament connect to the quickest server based on your position. Otherwise, you can click the Select Location link to pick out from its 28 country locations.

Features and services
The screen where you select the server location has troika tabs, cardinal for recommended servers, for all servers, and for your favorites. There's also a speedometer icon at the tipto right to run a shapely-in ping test to see what kinda response time you can expect from complete enrolled servers.
Curiously, the Whol and Commend tabs list the same servers. The only difference is that All lists by category and location whereas the Recommend tab key lists servers mostly aside alphabetic ordinate. At the crown of Each is theVideos & Music category that lists all the services X-VPN unblocks including Netflix U.S. and Netflix UK, Amazon River Prime, Hulu, Pandora, 9Now, BBC iPlayer, and Sky Go. After this section, the remaining server locations are listed past global region much Eastern Samoa the Americas, Asia Peaceable, and indeed connected.
In my tests, X-VPN worked well for Netflix, Hulu, and Pandora. The international services also appeared to work, though I didn't test them deep.
Anyone WHO wants to drill down on the far side the land category tin do so by clicking the colored arrow to the left-wing of each position. There are five servers for U.K. Netflix, for example, and three in Canada.
Going rearwards to the primary screen of the app, clicking the image in the top left shows the app's settings, which are minimal. On that point are options to start X-VPN on boot and Application Control, a feature that mechanically disconnects selected apps when you are not adjoining to X-VPN.
IDG X-VPN's protocols screen.
One odd feature article of X-VPN is its Communications protocol option at the bottom of the of import screen out. X-VPN has eight different "protocols" to choose from only the VPN doesn't provide any technical details about them much as what VPN protocol and encryption standards they use. Rather each protocol has a missive denomination so much as "Communications protocol A," "Protocol B," "Protocol C," and so on. Each protocol uses a five-star system to rate its speed to connect, speed after connected, security measures, and ability to unblock.
X-VPN says it doesn't cater inside information some the protocols and encryption standards it's exploitation for each option in guild to somehow protect your privacy. If my editor allowed me to practice the eye roll emoji I would put it flop present.
Privacy, anonymity, and intrust
X-VPN is owned away Free Connected Limited, which is founded in Hong Kong. Its business savoir-faire is Cortege A40, 9/F Silvercorp International Predominate, 707-713 Nathan Traveling Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong. As for public leadership, I didn't find any using the usual searches, and when I asked the company for entropy, it declined to provide any.
My position on anonymity from companionship leaders should be well proverbial to anyone regularly reading our VPN reviews. Although VPN services are all about privacy and pseduo-anonymity for the user, it's also about trust and that means being healthy to point at a company and know who's behind it. That isn't happening here.
IDG X-VPN's server selection after running the ping test.
As for the privacy insurance policy, it makes some pretty good promises, but it also collects a fair amount of data. X-VPN does not monitor the apps, services, or websites you use patc connected the VPN, accordant to the privateness policy. It also doesn't store your originating IP address or the waiter IP address you connect to, nor does it hive away any DNS queries your computer makes.
It does collect your email address, which it requires to create an account, as advisable as your registration information, subscription status, and payment method. All standard stuff so removed. X-VPN will also commemorate your iOS and Mechanical man A.D. identifier numbers on mobile.
X-VPN says it also collects data in aggregated, including your OS, the app interlingual rendition of X-VPN you habit, number data victimised for the month, and location information. On meridian of that it also records the server location you used, connectedness time stamp, any mistake reports, protocol used, and the net type you wont to connect to the service.
That's not terrible, but non the best we've seen either. If all you'rhenium solicitous about is that it doesn't follow you around the web then it should be enough. Privacy and anonymity maximalists should look elsewhere.
Performance
In our tests, X-VPN was pretty good but not standout. On common it maintained 31 percent of the base speed whole using five country locations. That puts it in the middle of the pack among the VPNs we tested. It will do the job for streaming and other needs, but there are faster VPNs out there.
Conclusion
X-VPN gets the job cooked, simply a lack of transparency about who's buns the company, and the use of goods and services of a unknown VPN protocol pass something of a risk for users. For that reason, I recommend looking elsewhere for a VPN with a well-known track put down of reliable serve and one that offers more information roughly company leadership.
